On the assumption of an orthotropic surface for Venus, possible contrasts are calculated for two negative relief forms on the Venusian surface: an extended furrow with triangular cross section, and a crater. Taking into account albedo results in less contrast. Error resulting from not taking into account multiple reflections from the sides of the objects is calculated. The contrasts for the furrow and crater are commensurable with, or larger than, those for a stepped object. The results are valid for any surface located at a large optical depth in a conservative scattering medium.
