The escape probability in the Sobolev limit in 1-D cylindrical symmetry is derived. The result is an integral, a function of the optical depth τ, and another variable determined by the velocity field. Evaluating the integral on the cylindrical axis gives an analytic expression involving Bessel functions, a result which is also valid for self-similarly expanding or contracting media. Off-axis, the integral is approximated by three series expansions. The escape probability is used in a simulation of a cylindrical X-ray laser experiment.
