Solar Wind: Velocity

Scientific paper

It has been shown the the central parts of high-speed streams in the solar wind are projected in the overwhelming majority of cases onto quiet sections of the solar surface, and the periods of increasing and decreasing velocity can be projected onto the neighborhoods of eruptive-active features. The probability of attaining a velocity exceeding 700 km/s is appreciably increased if the outflow region of a high-speed stream borders on an active region. The question of the relation between the solar-wind velocity and processes in active regions is discussed.
