Crater densities define a specific, low-density region on Eros that includes the large craters Himeros and Shoemaker (IAU: Charlois), but extends a variable distance from the rims of these depressions. No color variations, and few morphologic indicators, correlate with the crater density boundary; neither do densities of large ejecta blocks. Although some grooves are visible in densely cratered areas, most grooves are within the area of low crater density or its margins. The low crater density region is not solely due to ejecta, and may involve seismic effects. Crater densities below about 70 m diameter generally follow very similar curves on R-plots, suggesting an equilibrium condition, of whatever source. ``Pond" crater densities complicate the picture with an intermediate slope. These data amplify our picture of a complex, physically heterogeneous regolith on Eros.
