The stability of rapidly rotating stellar cores of evolved massive stars having finite entropy is tested. Maclaurin spheroids are used to describe the mechanical equilibrium and stability. Adopting a realistic equation of state generalized Chandrasekhar limits as functions of angular momentum are obtained for specific entropies and electron concentrations taken from advanced stellar evolution calculations. The significance of the results for pulsar formation and gravitational radiation bursts is stressed.
