With the Thomas-Fermi method, the authors determine the equation of state of hot dense matter at nuclear subsaturation densities. They investigate several geometries with nucleons organized in crystals structures of nuclei, rods, slabs, tubes and bubbles. They calculate the adiabatic index relevant for the first stage of the collapse of medium mass stars.
