The Science Case of the Exo-Planets Imaging Camera and Spectrograph (EPICS) for the E-ELT is very challenging and calls for the development of new concepts in the field of high contrast imaging. Accurate performance evaluation is of prime importance. We will give an overview of how the EPICS study aims at modeling the instrument as a whole, including the telescope, the instrument with dedicated AO and coronagraphy, and the associated data processing.
