The Texas Education Agency recently implemented a mandatory four-year science requirement for graduation that goes into effect in 2012. Subjects for the new fourth-year science course include Astronomy, Earth and Space Science, Environmental Science, Geology, and Engineering. Although course topics have been identified, no textbook or detailed plan has been provided to the educators who will teach these courses. We will provide resources, guidance in curriculum development, and preparation for teachers in south Texas to become certified to teach the new fourth-year capstone courses in Astronomy and Earth and Space Science. An important requirement of these fourth-year courses is a field investigation, for which we provide resources through mini grants to the teachers.
