Planet Earth Science Inc. was established by an AGU scientist with the specific purpose of bringing Earth System Science education to the secondary education level. Through the development of its multimedia education products it has engaged a number of AGU scientists, engineers, instructional designers and educators at every level of the development chain from instructional design to content writing, media development and class-room testing. This has allowed diverse communities to better understand each other and work at finding ways to collaborate more efficiently. Specific experiences acquired through the development of the CODIE award winning instructional CD "Ocean Expeditions: El Niño," jointly funded by the Department of Energy and NASA, will be presented and lessons learned will be discussed with emphasis on scientists engagements.
