Recent Cambridge 5-GHz maps and 81.5-MHz interplanetary scintillation data are used to show that the beam model for double radio galaxies and quasi-stellar objects can account for the observed energy distribution between compact and extended features. It is shown that the extended tails of the sources could be in pressure balance with the external medium.
