It is proposed that the activity of galactic nuclei and quasars may be the result of interaction between stars and a massive central galactic object. The galaxy NGC 3379 is used to illustrate this hypothesis. The number of stars falling into the hypothetical central object of NGC 3379 per year is estimated, several possible trajectories are calculated for the infall of stars into this 'superstar', and it is noted that such a central object may undergo periodic explosions due to the accretion of captured stars. A possible evolutionary sequence is considered for the formation of the central object.
