The equilibrium conditions of a given aerosol particle size and composition are a function of the altitude, time of day, season, and planetary albedo. In this paper, the analysis presented in a related paper by Fiocco et al. (1975) is extended to take into account the altitude dependence of the planetary thermal radiation. The energy equilibrium computations are performed from ground level to an altitude of 60 km. Maximum and average values for the heating rates induced by the particles into the ambient gas are computed for summer and winter 45 deg N conditions.
