The analytical expressions derived in the present paper are well suited for comparing the energy and weight efficiency of spacecraft with sustainer engines of various type (electric, chemical, nuclear, etc.) in the course of orbital transfers. Simple engineering formulas are proposed for a number of specific cases. Example calculations are carried out concerning the determination of rational ranges of application for each of the propulsion types under consideration.
