The main processes of energy exchange in the molecular lines and infrared data of molecular cloud W40 are studied. The basic physical parameters of the cloud are estimated, and the gas and dust cooling and heating rates are calculated. The energy constraints among the dust, the gas, and the embedded infrared source are discussed, and the original energy source is considered. Results indicate that the infrared source that provided the dust with energy must be identified as the main energy source of the cloud.
