The forward-reverse interplanetary shock at 1 AU that was observed on 25 Mar 1969 by the HEOS-1 satellite and described by Chao et al. (1972) is reexamined on the basis of a study of the overall features of the accompanying 1 MeV solar proton fluxes observed and the associated plasma and magnetic field conditions at the time of the observation. The intensity peak associated with the passage of the forward shock is examined, with attention given to its directional properties in terms of pitch angle distributions. The fluctuations of the magnetic field throughout the interaction region (IR) are studied and discussed in terms of their relevance to the propagation properties of 1 MeV proton fluxes.
