The Energetic and Relativistic Nuclei and Electron (ERNE) experiment will investigate the solar atmosphere and the heliosphere by detecting particles produced in various kinds of energy release processes. The instrument will measure the energy spectra of elements in the range Z = 1 to 30. It will also measure the abundance ratios of isotopes as well as the anisotropy of the particle flux. The isotopic resolution varies with particle type and energy; for example, resolution of carbon isotope is sigmam = 0.25 amu in the energy range 20 to 140 MeV/nucleon.
