On the basis of the catalog of Wooley et al. of the stars within 25 pc from the sun and FK4 stars with distance r < 150 pc, a study of the motions of the nearby stars in the plane parallel to the galactic plane is made. It is shown that the G, K and M dwarfs take part in the Taurus and Ursa Majoris streams, whereas the G, K and M giants do not take part in these streams. A conclusion is made, with a significance greater than 99.5%, that the elliptical velocity distribution law is unfit for all groups of stars. The most characteristic feature of stellar motion in the solar neighbourhood consists in a greater energy of motion of stars moving towards the galactic centre compared with the stars moving away from it.
