Both 79E and SO galaxies with radio emission was surveyed to study the central regions of these galaxies with high quality plate material with sufficient plate scale (15 in./mm) in order to correlate optical and radio features. An average of 0.84 + or - 0.33 companions closer than 50 kpc to the primary were found for galaxies in the sample. This is significantly more than the value of 0.11 + or - 0.42 found by Bothun and Sullivan for a sample of isolated and mostly nonradio ellipticals, it is more in agreement with Holmberg's (1969) value of 1.08 + or - 0.32 for a sample of spiral galaxies. This may indicate a connection between companions and radio sources in ellipticals. These companions seem to be aligned with the major axis of the primary galaxies. This alignment is strongest for the closest companions and for the most elongated galaxies. Three dust lanes were detected. The dust lanes in otherwise normal E galaxies associated with double radio sources were primarily found perpendicular to the radio axis. The radio optical axes alignment distribution was found to be random.
