Planetary Features: Positions

Scientific paper

The determinations of the position of atmospheric and surface features of the planets are essential to their study. Recent advance in electronic imaging and software analysis have opened new perspective on the measurement of positions of planetary features. This paper presents the theoretical framework of the geometric transformations involved. Some practical advices on the measurement process by use of freely available softwares are given, with a study of the influence of unsharp masking over the measure accuracy.
