Frequency distribution diagrams are presented for Ga, La, Mn, Pb, Rb, Sr, Y and Zr in 130 acid igneous rocks from Africa, and major constituents are shown for 92 of the samples. Specimens from (a) younger non-orogenic complexes and (b) older basement plus older orogenic occurrences are present in approximately equal numbers; their respective contributions are compared and contrasted. Differences exist which suggest two distinct populations, and regional enrichments also affect the patterns. Calcium in a mixed group of rocks has a lognormal type distribution, but the older population within the group is near-normal and does not require logarithmic transformation. It is suggested that it would be unwise to adopt lognormality as a routine basis for comparison of data in a geochemical province investigation, since positively-skewed joint distributions have component populations which follow the normal law in some cases.
