Amateur astrophotography backed up by television/videotape techniques, image intensification, and conventional photography is described. The need for special red-sensitive films for long exposures without reciprocity failure, a rotating camera mount to compensate for the earth's rotation, and filters, is discussed for photography through binoculars and small telescopes. Useful video techniques (video peaking, contrast enhancement, videotape playbacks), applications for image intensifiers, and illumination of sighting crosshairs with an LED are described. A time lapse sequence of Martian occultation of a star derived from superposed videotape images, and a record of lunar 'travel' by scanning the camera view over the moon's surface, are depicted.
