The LTE electron temperatures have been measured at 22-23 GHz for 18 H II regions which are located between 5 and 12.5 kpc from the galactic center. A linear fit to the results has been made and a gradient of 400 + or - 100 K/kpc with distance from the galactic center. The correlation coefficient for this fit is 0.78. Model calculations show that the true electron temperature is almost equal to the LTE electron temperature at the observing frequency. Hence the agreement of the result with data obtained at 5 and 10.6 GHz indicates that the influence of non-LTE effects must be small. A plot of the LTE electron temperature with distance from the sun shows no gradient; this implies that the gradient with distance from the galactic center is probably not a selection effect.
