An analysis is presented of the dynamics of nonlinear electromagnetic waves in a magnetized vacuum, with reference to the formation of discontinuities in the magnetized vacuum surrounding a neutron star. Equations are derived for interacting weakly nonlinear waves of different polarization; and solutions are obtained in the form of plane TE-polarization waves with the electric field vector orthogonal to the propagation direction and the stationary magnetic field. It is shown that long TE-waves whose dispersion can be neglected evolve with the formation of discontinuities. The structure of a low-intensity TE shock wave front is determined by weak high-frequency dispersion, and is of an oscillating nature. Conditions for the formation of a discontinuity in the magnetized vacuum surrounding a neutron star with a magnetic field of approximately 4 x 10 to the 12th G are evaluated.
