The regular transformation of plasma waves into electromagnetic radiation by a shock-front irregularity is examined. The processes of linear and nonlinear transformation of plasma waves into first- and second-harmonic radiation are analyzed, and the weak polarization of type II solar radio bursts is considered. It is concluded that the weak polarization of type II bursts can be attributed to induced scattering of electromagnetic waves into plasma waves and vice versa as the waves travel through a medium with an enhanced level of plasma-wave energy.
