In 1922, Fridman was the first to present non-static world models, based on Einstein's general theory of relativity. Thus, he abandoned the idea of a static world model, the principle of the universes of Einstein and de Sitter. In a short "Comment" Einstein accused Fridman of an alleged arithmetic error and interpreted his work as prove of the constancy of the world radius in cosmic time. However, it was not Fridman but Einstein who had made a mistake in calculating the divergence of the energy-momentum tensor. Krutkov, a friend of Fridman's, succeeded finally in convincing Einstein to admit his error and to revise his Comment by a brief "Note". While no longer doubting Fridman's calculation, he still remained sceptic with regard to the physical interpretation and importance of Fridman's non-static world models. However, this view turned out to be a mistake as well, only a few years later.
