Nine fields containing BL Lacertae objects have been observed with the imaging proportional counter of the Einstein Observatory. Seven BL Lacertae objects and eight serendipitous sources have been detected. A full account of the time variability of 3C 66A is given, by comparing its behavior at X-ray energies and at the other frequencies, and the features of its overall frequency spectrum are identified.
