The efficiency of selected space based UV spectrometers at 40-300 nm waveband was analyzed. The effective area S as well as the spectral resolution R, the number of simultaneously registered spectrum elements N, and the number of simultaneously registered imaging elements M were used to compare the instruments. These parameters, together with the flux throughput L, determine the potential quality of the spectrograph W=RNMLQ. In a range of wavebands where there are rapid changes of reflectivity of optical coatings and quantum efficiency Q of photocathodes, the potential quality W can be increased due to the segmentation of the telescope aperture. Abilities of the method of aperture segmentation are shown on an example of Long Slit Spectrograph (LSS) of the World Space Observatory Ultraviolet (WSO-UV) project.
