The effects of the X-ray scattering halo of Cyg X-3 on the dependence of the X-ray light curve on phase and on energy are investigated. The effects are found to be significant for photon energies below about 6 keV. Specifically, the corrected depth of modulation decreases monotonically with energy except at the iron line. This relation contradicts the expectation of both the stellar wind and cocoon models of Cyg X-3. The dependence of the depth of modulation on the peak flux density evident in the data of van der Klis and Bonnet-Bidaud (1982) and of Leach et al. (1975) is found not to be an artifact of interstellar scattering. Finally, it is found that previous spectral analyses of Cyg X-3 are certainly affected by scattering.
