Scalo (1981) has drawn attention to the presence of peculiar red giants which show abundance anomalies and more recently Luck, Bond and Lambert (1984) have pointed out the presence of high latitude F supergiants which are found at heights of 1 - 5 kpc above the Galactic disk. The authors demonstrate in this paper that both of these phenomena can be understood as a consequence of the combined effect of rotation and convection in red giants suffering mass loss.
