Three types of ionospheric disturbances caused by earthquakes in Armenia on Dec. 7, 1988 and Jan. 24, 1989 were identified on the basis of vertical-sounding data and multifrequency oblique Doppler sounding data. Type I was connected with the transformation of seismic waves into long-period acoustic waves. Type II is produced by plasma-acoustic waves and has a horizontal propagation velocity of 1.6-1.8 km/s. Type III is produced by acoustic-gravity waves and has a horizontal propagation velocity of 0.4-0.8 km/s.
