The effects of finite current channel width on the current convective instability is analyzed. The general dispersion relation describing the mode structure of the current convective instability with finite channel width is derived, and a theoretical analysis of the mode structure equation is given. Numerical results are presented, and applications to the high-latitude ionosphere are considered.
