Effective collision strengths for all the finite-structure forbidden transitions within the 3p3 ground configuration of K V have been calculated in a seven-state close-coupling approximation including configuration interaction in the target representation. The present work, based on the use of modern computing facilities and elaborate physical models and methods, provides results that show discrepancies of up to a factor of five with previous calculations. The effect of these new data on astrophysical diagnostics in nebulae should be significant.
