The qualitative ansatz that the intermediate-energy gravitational action has a nonlinear dependence on the space-time volume is used to provide an effective-action model for the vanishing of the cosmological constant. The present ansatz is shown to scale consistently into the infrared. Straightforward functional-integral methods show the vanishing of the physical cosmological constant.
