The authors used brightness distribution of compact radio sources to
calculate the delay and fringe rate produced by source structure, and
used MK III VLBI data to calculate the effect of source structure on the
precision of baseline measurements. For an 8000-km baseline, the effect
can sometimes reach the order of centimetres.
