The effect of a uniform rotation about the axis of a gravitating cylinder is investigated. Numerical solutions are presented for different values of rotation, showing the variation of the non-dimensional growth rate with the wave number. The system is found to be stable with respect to deformations with wave numbers exceeding the critical wave number, which increases with increase in the angular velocity. A comparison of curves indicates that the range of unstable wave numbers increases due to rotation, establishing its destabilizing influence.
