A global numerical model of the thermosphere-ionosphere-protonosphere system is used to study the influence of plasma motions along and across the geomagnetic field on the thermal regime of the protonosphere and ionosphere. This influence is connected with Joule heating and compression forces. At subauroral geomagnetic flux tubes, 'hot spots' in the ion temperature distribution (up to 6000 K and above) are formed in the premidnight and morning sectors. The hot spots in the electron temperature distribution at these heights are less pronounced because of the strong effect of electron heat conduction.
