The effect of dissipating planetary waves on heat and impurity transport and on mean-flow acceleration in the middle atmosphere is analyzed. It is shown that the contribution of these waves to heat and impurity transport can be described in the form of a diffusion law; the turbulent transport coefficients of impurity mass and energy depend on wave dissipation and differ from each other. In addition, an expression is obtained for the mean-flow acceleration due to planetary-wave dissipation.
