The periodic motions of a charged particle in the meridian plane of a magnetic dipole are examined for the case where a perturbing force inversely proportional to the square of the distance is present. It is found that for the particular case considered (a perturbation constant equal to 0.05) only four families of simple-periodic oscillations, symmetric with respect to the equatorial axis, exist. Three of these families terminate with flat equatorial oscillations, but not the fourth one. Two of them consist of open-path-type oscillations, and the other two of closed-path-type ones. The stability of the periodic oscillations is determined, and attention is paid to the infinitesimal periodic motions in the neighborhood of each equilibrium point. From these points emanate the families of open-path-type oscillations.
