Scientific paper

The paper presents calculations of the influence of longitudinal currents on the structure of the ionosphere in the 100-1000 km height range. Attention is given to the steady state case and electron density profiles are derived. It is shown that, if charged-particle temperature is independent of current magnitude, the electron density decreases at heights above 400 km when the topside ionosphere current parameter is less than zero and varies only slightly when the topside current parameter is greater than zero.
