The mechanical Q-factor of the antenna is one of the main factors determining the sensitivity of a Weber detector of gravitational waves. This paper presents a calculation of the effect of the coupling between longitudinal and bending modes on the Q-factor of the principal longitudinal mode for an antenna of complex shape, differing from a circular cylinder. Calculations are confirmed by an experimental study of damping for silicon single-crystal antenna models.
