Stellar Models: Oscillations

Scientific paper

In this paper we present a method for computing the periods of small adiabatic oscillations of stellar models distorted by differential rotation. The method is based on the averaging technique introduced by Kippenhahn and Thomas (1970) and utilizes the concepts of Roche equipotentials as introduced by Kopal (1987). The law of differential rotation has been assumed to be of the form w = b1+b2s2, where w is the angular velocity of rotation of fluid element at a distance s from the axis of rotation, b1 and b2 are certain numerical constants. The method includes distortional effects up to second order of smallness in distortional parameters b1and b2. Comparison with observational data is also presented.
