Measurements of thermal conductivity for mercury are performed under low gravitational condition of 0.1 to 0.01 g during the parabolic flight of an aircraft (Mitsubishi MU-300). Effects of convective heat transfer on thermal conductivity value of low Prandtl number melts measured by a transient hot wire method are discussed quantitatively. The critical Rayleigh number to suppress convective heat transfer is determined to be 5,000 when thermal conductivity of liquid sample is measured with our thermal conductivity measurement facility, TCMF. It is concluded that convective heat transfer due to wire heating has no influence on the thermal conductivity values of molten InSb measured under microgravity of 0.0001 g on board the sounding rocket TEXUS-24 and in a drop shaft (JAMIC).
