Hall Effect Thrusters - HETs are coaxial electric thrusters used on board space vehicles for station keeping or orbit transfer. In HETs, the combined actions of an imposed magnetic field and applied voltage lead to an intense ionization of a xenon flux by electrons and an acceleration of the generated ion beam. We examine in this study the effect of the mode of the injection of neutral atoms on the HET properties using a two-dimensional model. Results show that an additional injection of neutrals through the ceramic walls exhibits a decrease of the erosion, keeping a high engine performance.
