New results on the composition of chondrites and of the near asteroid population have significant implications for the economic exploitability of carbonaceous chondrites and other asteroids presumed to be abundant in near-earth space. Recent results on spectral class and composition can be combined with known mission opportunities both to understand the economics of asteroid exploitation, and to compare these economics with those of lunar and Mars system exploitation.
