The transient effect in extensive air showers was investigated using the thick (30 cm) liquid scintillators of the Kover device at the Baksan neutrino observatory. The data were interpreted in the light of the total transient effect, consisting in the ratio of the density of particles recorded in the scintillator to the density of particles above the concrete roof of the facility. The results are compared with those of a computer-simulation program for electron-photon cascades.
