The spatial structure of 410 extensive air showers (EAS) is investigated using data obtained with a scintillation 'carpet' consisting of 400 counters arranged in a 14 x 14 m square. The spatial distribution of the electron-photon component near the EAS cores is examined. It is found that the spatial distribution near a shower axis is not a function of the number of electrons in the shower and that about 3% of the showers with more than 200,000 electrons are clearly of the multicore type.
