Needs, techniques, and future possibilities for the study of the diurnal earth rotation and motions of the axis of rotation are discussed. Reasons and needs to measure more precisely the earth angular position are given. Measurement techniques and accuracy available are discussed: astronomical methods; radioelectric technique - Doppler method; lunar laser ranging technique; and interferometric methods.
