An analytic model to derive the continuum spectrum and then the absolute bolometric magnitudes and the bolometric corrections of SN 1987A in the first 2 days after the explosion, i.e., up until the time that the full bolometric spectrum is measured, is developed. The approach describes the early atmosphere of the exploding star, taking into account the extended nature of the envelope, its expansion, and its non-LTE state due to the predominance of scattering over absorption. The results obtained for Woosley's model 10H at t = 0.5 days show that the net effect is a decrease in the visual brightness of about half a magnitude with respect to the value obtained previously using a simplified approch based on a sharp blackbody photosphere, on LTE sources, and on static line opacities, and the obtained value fits the observation quite well.
