The very first image from the Chandra X-ray Observatory after the forward contamination cover was opened revealed that the High Resolution Mirror Assembly had survived launch and was working as designed. Each ensuing image revealed the potential for exciting new science that will require months of analysis to realize. A brief status report will be given on a number of projects being carried out by members of the ACIS Team on the GTO data that were received before the abstracts were due. Topics that will be discussed include: the nature of the central source in RCW103 and the nearby pulsar; the complex emission in M82; the region of SagA*; star forming regions in Orion and 30 Dor; SN1987A; and the Hubble Deep Field observation. A fuller description of the work in progress can be found in the many papers submitted to the meeting. Several problems encountered early in the mission and their impact on making observations with ACIS will be discussed. This work was supported in part by NASA contract NAS8-38252.
