As the first science program of the Spitzer Space Telescope the Spitzer Science Center conducted a First-Look Survey (FLS) as the inaugural Director's Discretionary Time (DDT) program. The FLS consists of three components, high and low galactic latitude and ecliptic plane surveys, all done with both the IRAC and MIPS cameras. The data were obtained in mid-December, 2003 through mid- January 2004. Sample data were made available on the Spitzer public web-site in mid- January, 2004 to support the Spitzer Cycle-1 call for proposals, while the complete reduced data sets were released in mid-May 2004 at the opening of the Spitzer public archive. The early scientific results from this survey will be described.
The Spitzer Space Telescope is operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology under NASA contract 1407.
